On the cover of one of my reference books..a picture of Ricky's
Verve release(A Teenage Romance I think) is shown...but the 78 rpm
disc has a Red/orange lable..
Now... every Verve release i have seen has been black with
silver..or white lettering .
Was this orange a common Verve label color in the 50s?.

I love Styx too Kate............my kids favorite was "Mr. Robato" but I didn't like the song.......it kind of gave me a rash!  lol  I think my favorite by them is probably "Too Much Time On My Hands" and I enjoy "Come Sail Away" and "Babe" also.............an excellent70's and 80's group!!!  I also have Dennis DeYoung's song "Desert Moon" on a CD..........There is just something about his voice that I love!!!!!!  v.  :)

It has been a fun listening session..
What is rockin' your world...now??

Not too much rockin' in this house, John............way too early!  I notice you have a Fiestas song in your list above.  I haven't heard it.  Considering that they only had two top-100 songs, I am amazed that I have recently found a few others by them.  The only song that I am familiar with in your list is the Harpers Bizarre song............Let's all have a good Sunday!!                      v.  :)

Hi Vicki,
sure i know the song You´ll Never Walk Alone by Gerry & The Pacemakers.
In England it was an A-Side, the third single and the third no. 1 chart
topper in a row after How Do You Do It and I Like It in 1963. A
beautiful version.

I just downloaded the song by them, listened to it and converted it and will burn it later, Uwe........a very nice song that I had never heard.  I don't find that song as an A or B side so it must be an album cut.........do you know the year?  Thanks for the suggestion........the song is sure different sounding for "Styx" style................v.  :)

It was the B side here of "How Do You Do It".......go figure!  And "I Like It" was #17 here in September of 1964......but I do believe you have the US charts books, so would know that.  :)                                 v.

Hi Vicki,
it´s curios, the song was not a chart hit in the US or in the UK but in
Germany. It reached no. 5 in 1980 here. That´s why it´s such a popular
song here. Sad that the song never charted in the US or the UK

I have seen a few 45's that are orange and yellow. They seem to
predate 1957. The label was black with silver print up to '66, when
it became blue with silver print. (Soul & Inspiration by The
Righteous Bros. is on this design) Sometime in '67, it became a
cremeish colour, as the label itself became more fragmented. There
was Verve Folkways and Verve Forecast. By 1970, M G M records was in
trouble. (Their problems started back in '67, when they invested
heavily in groups from Boston...The most famous being the Velvet
Underground) I believe Verve was dissolved about this time, except
for reissues, until the Polydor takeover in '76.
