Hey y'all.  Thursday night is a brand new night for PJ's.  This will be
the third Thursday there.  Last week was a bit quiet but the singers
were amazing none the less.  Show starts at 7pm EARLY EARLY.  I have
some brand new CDs for those of you who made the requests for
particular new songs.  Y'all come on out and give us a listen.  See ya
at PJs.  Shawnee Mission Parkway and Neiman Rd.

What are the hours there?  The database lists 7-12??  Is that right?

Hey, two more chances to check out JR's new place out in the Great Mall
in Olathe!!  He will be having two extra shows this Friday and Saturday
night.

Amanda will be working Friday and Kevin "DJ Showtime" will be doing the
honors on Saturday.

Actually, it is about the same...I think that Liberty was bit closer
even, though Nova Rosa might have been a bit further after that
detour, lol!!

I will try to make it up sometime, but last night just wasn't going
to work out.

I was in there a couple of weeks ago - there's a guy named "Rick"
running his show at the American Inn now -- I think he said Wed thru
Saturday night. Rick sings in a band and has the karaoke as a small
business for a few bucks on the side. I found him personable and
friendly.

My impressions were as follows...

Nice guy as KJ

Extremely small rotation

Crowd friendly, but pretty much ignoring the karaoke -- no applause
for singers. Would sing along once in awhile on a country crowd
pleaser such as David Allan Coe's "You Never Even Called Me By My
Name"

Song book of approximately 1000 songs

Decent sound system and the KJ knew how to run it ok. Peavey
speakers. Staunton dual cdg deck -- not sure if he could pitch
change but probably could at least approximate with pitch bend. I'd
guess usuing your own disks wouldn't be an issue.

No stage monitor, but speakers set up properly to where you could
hear youreslf fine

Wired mics worked ok -- some minor static from the cord once during
the one song I did -- which was easily compensated for

Drinks were reasonable.

Bar was smokier than I prefer.

Conclusion -- Good place to stop off after work or if you're in the
neighborhood and practice a new song on a decent system without too
much pressure if you crash and burn.

I have noticed lately not many posts.  My internet was screwey and
expected my mailbox to be laden with posts from here and had very
few....just wondered where everyone was and whats up?  I enjoy reading
the posts on here so much and was kinda missing them.

Just to let you all know, this may be the last Thursday at Tony's
Bar and grill. Things have been pretty slow there lately, and
nothing I've tried on my own seems to get a consistent crowd in
there. I'm hoping this is just a scare tactic from the bar owner,
but he seems pretty serious about it. I am in fairly desperate need
of packing the place out this week.

As I've said before, this is, BY FAR, my favorite bar to work at and
hang out at. Great staff, decent drink prices, good sound, a back
room to escape karaoke (if you need a quick break) or play
pool/darts, etc. I do have a handfull of regulars who are there
almost every week, but there aren't enough to fill the bar.

Even if this is the last Thursday there, at least for awhile, I
still want a full house for my last show. This is my only regular
show right now, and it hurts to think I may not be there next week.
Tony's is where I first started attending B# shows regularly, and I
actually just had my 100th show there 2 weeks ago. (I forgot it was
#100 until I got home that night.)

Please, please, PLEASE come hang out with me this week at Tony's,
87th and Quivira, from 9:30-1:30. $5 pitchers of Bud and Bud Light,
maybe a shot special if I can convince the owner, and LOTS of great
karaoke! Tell your friends, tell you family, tell everyone!!

I had been told that there wasn't going to be a membership fee, just
sign the sheet to be a member, but I haven't been out there yet.

Have you been there?  Are they really charging $10?  I had kind of
thought that Olathe wouldn't make it THAT easy to be a private club
and circumvent their new non-smoking ordinance.  It is a one time fee
(if they have it) so if you are a regular it's not a big deal, but it
might discourage drop ins.

It varies a lot.  There are days when they will come flooding in.
We've had more than 100 on a few days and some with hardly a one.

Linda is right (I read ahead :)) that often the burst of posts is
related to some drama or other, so it's often not a GOOD thing that the
posts are really high.  But other times it could just be that people
are excited about some up coming event.

Last year we averaged each month anywhere from 10 to 40 posts per day.
So far in 2007 we had 856 in January and 608 in February, so that's
actually somewhat on the high side of things.  About 20 per day is
average.

This is a great place to go for karaoke, and it is a shame that
things have dropped off there.  My son, who gets married now in less
than 2 weeks(!) met his wife to be singing karaoke there!  I will let
him know that this may be the last show and maybe he and his friends
will come help pack out the crowd.  I think a few may still be going
there regularly but I'm not sure.

I would encourage everyone as well to come out and help Mary go out
in style.  Hopefully, Patric will change his mind, but in the end it
is a business and if the show isn't drawing people regularly it just
isn't going to last.

Hope to see a bunch of people there!  I will certainly be trying to
make it out assuming my schedule allows it.
