Here is this week's:
http://soundscapes.us/afterglow/playlists/2012/120202.html

it, the band gets a link on the Afterglow web site!

Subject: Review of Richard Burr's "Avenue 256" CD
redakuma
Send Email Send Email

Hi, some of you might be interested in this new album from Richard Burr. Here's
my review of it. Joe

Richard Burr – Avenue 256
Kickin' Dust Music
kdustmusic@...
www.RichardBurr.com

California-based singer/songwriter Richard Burr is a troubadour whose folk rock
sound has country and spiritual underpinnings. With the exception of the drums
played by Burr, all instruments are played by Dave Chamberlin. Background vocals
are provided by Teresa James. The twelve original songs on "Avenue 256" draw
upon Burr's personal reflections and discoveries. With humility, Burr's sage
musical advice inspires us to reflect on how to deal with such challenges in
life as loneliness, hopelessness, sadness, a broken heart, a missing part, a
stranger or even the Utah desert. Perhaps that's why he chose to add one cover
also on his third album, five years in the making. That's Bob Dylan's "Don't
Think Twice, It's Alright." I understand that he works with those in the early
stages of addiction recovery, and his approach for those on Dylan's "dark side
of the road" is to provide "guided mindfull meditation."

Burr's vocal presence is affably pleasing as he sings in the first person about
confronting human trials and struggles. In "Walk with Me," Burr sings "I hear
voices singing out in harmony." A key message in "I Just Breathe" is to
"surround myself with angels who hold me tightly in their arms." Burr prays
that forgiveness will replace any anger and rage in "Tonight." The song
"Falling Free" is a favorite cut on the CD, as Burr reverently expresses "I
search for God's great blessings, and I pray for peace through the night" and "I
wish you could believe in falling free." Instrumentally, the groove on "Let Me
In" pulls you right into the song as Burr professes that "I know it never helps
to run."

While a few of the lyrics seem awkward at times, Burr's interpretive vocalizing
skills for his self-penned material can allow you to personalize the messages.
In "I Stand Here Before You" he sings "I've got to hold onto somethin', and that
something is you." It's a fairly common sentiment , as are the ones in "Dirty
Water" ("I'm out here searching for answers to questions that never cease") and
"Above and Below" ("I close my weary eyes and think of you"). Some of his more
memorable reflective moments are when he really attempts to reach the depth of
his heart and soul. "When You Fell" is an evocative message that "You are my
sorrow … you're my splendor, but it's for your surrender that my prayers have
begun." Similarly, "Freedom of the Truth" is his revelation that "I've finally
learned what freedom was when I learned to tell the truth." The only story told
in the third person, "Waist Deep" conveys that "he's much too proud to tell
himself that he's had enough."

Whether autobiographical or somewhat fictional, "I Don't Have To Know" claims
that Burr's never had a master plan for his life. Despite his statement that "I
just ran with the pack, like you. Now I've got nothing to show for it, except
these songs and these stories of a fool," I think that Richard Burr is actually
a pretty wise minstrel with a clear vision for his music. It's definitely worth
a listen to provide insight on dealing with life's struggles. (Joe Ross)

Hi, here's a review fo Tony Dominelli's new album. I think he sells it at
amazon, cdbaby and through his own website.
See ya
Joe

Tony Dominelli – Dominelli
publicity@...
www.tonydominelli.bandcamp.com

Canadian singer/songwriter Tony Dominelli has sung advertising jingles, acted in
community theater, fronted the band MATREX, and released that band's album "I'll
Always Remember" in 2005. His experience as a pro musician covers nearly 3
decades. Now, his solo album "Dominelli" features elements of pop, rock and folk
in self-penned material that largely focuses on his personal feelings and
emotions, many inspired by another person. His song titles immediately tell us
that most of his melodic songs focus on "you" and "I" (or "me"). Whether
Dominelli is singing "All I Want is You," or "I Like the Way You Dance" or "You
Lead Me On," he artfully captures some common statements that we can immediately
relate to.

The question becomes whether he's got the catchy hooks to garner wider attention
for his original music. Besides love, the interactions of two people are his
predominant theme, and I'd encourage him to think outside that box to write many
more songs that explore uncommon subjects. With Tony's background in theater,
he might find further inspiration from the contemporary productions that he's
been involved with. One example is "Dreamsinger" with its themes of "profound
love, racial tension, high and lows of pop culture, generational conflicts, and
journeys into the heart." Even with the rocking "Money," he states that "I don't
give a damn what you [or they] say." His closer ("Most People") has a
straightforward and repeating statement, and I imagined that number presented
with more of a reggae beat.

Nonetheless, I found Tony Dominelli's solo album to be a well-arranged and
stylishly-rendered musical creation that captures his sincere messages on a
pleasing canvas of guitars, keyboard, saxophone, harmonica, bass, drums, and
vocal harmonies. Despite the focus on a predominant and common theme, it's
definitely polished music with interesting dynamics and a smoldering swagger.

it, the band gets a link on the Afterglow web site!

on Saturday, March 3. http://soundscapes.us/thoughtradio
